THE PRESS ON HER GHOST:

"Something between a tribute, a remake, and a singular, standalone piece, Her Ghost radically reworks Marker’s original film into a far darker, steadfastly unsentimental yet sublime assault on the senses "- Fact Magzine

"The team’s decision to make a more emotional, abstract work out of the events described in La Jetée is a triumph of multimedia performance" - arcfinity

"The gritty processed photography and illustration, Kode9′s rumbling sound design and the straight up gravitas of Ms. Haptic’s live narration made for a super-engaging performance that actually spoke to film as a medium rather than simply appropriating stylistic conventions from it" - creativeapplications.net

"Her Ghost isn't just an exhumation of a cultural artifact, polished and presented to a new generation of film students; it's a painstaking decoding, and you could say, a purposefully unravelled mess, reassembled in a format that in some strange way brings that “fateful” day on the jetty into another future "- motherboard

‘Her Ghost’
La Jetée reimagined

Her Ghost’ is a live-cinema re-imagining of Chris Marker’s classic sci-fi film ‘La Jetée’, created by Lucy Benson (video, script, direction) and Marcel Weber (video, script, direction), kode9 (soundtrack, script) and Ms Haptic (narration, script). It was selected for inclusion in the official Chris Marker restrospective at the Pompidou in 2013.

The work is not a ‘remix’, rather a re-imagining. The script has been completely rewritten from the woman’s perspective, creating a parallel narrative to La Jetée that works harmoniously with events and characters in the original film yet pushes the story forwards into the future. Simultaneously taking the audience through the history of media and how it shapes our most intimate thoughts and memories across time; from the beautiful nostalgia of film, to the paranoia and claustrophobia of the digital surveillance age and into a projected future of holographic light. All imagery and sound is derived from samples of the original film, creatively re-processed and recontextualised. The video, soundtrack and narration is performed live from within the audience.

Full performance duration: 42 minutes.
